Overview
The Bridgent BDG-SMS Snow Melt Spreader Truck is a precision winter road maintenance vehicle designed for the proactive application of de-icing agents and anti-skid materials to prevent ice formation and improve road safety during winter weather events. By applying de-icing agents before or during snowfall, the BDG-SMS can prevent ice bonding to the road surface, making subsequent snow removal much easier and more effective.
The BDG-SMS's spreading system can distribute a wide range of winter maintenance materials: dry rock salt, calcium chloride, magnesium chloride, potassium acetate, anti-skid sand, or a mixture of de-icing agent and sand. The material type and application rate are selected by the operator based on the weather conditions and the specific requirements of the road being treated.
The spreading width is adjustable from 2 meters to 8 meters, allowing the BDG-SMS to treat road widths from narrow city streets to wide highway lanes. The spreading pattern can be adjusted from a narrow, concentrated band to a wide, uniform distribution, depending on the application requirements.
The application rate is precisely controlled by the PLC system based on the vehicle speed and the programmed application rate. The radar speed sensor provides continuous vehicle speed feedback, and the PLC automatically adjusts the spreader output to maintain the target application rate regardless of speed variations. This precise control minimizes material waste and ensures consistent coverage across the entire treatment area.
For proactive de-icing operations, the BDG-SMS can be equipped with a liquid de-icing agent pre-wetting system that applies a liquid de-icer to the solid de-icing material as it leaves the spreader. The pre-wetting activates the de-icing material immediately upon contact with the road surface, improving its effectiveness and reducing the amount of material required.
